Feng
Shui:
An Ancient Chinese Art of Geomancy
The
Five Elements
ll
forms of Chinese metaphysical studies have its roots in the Five
Elements. From the study of Feng Shui - how unseen energies effect
the living environment, the study of Chinese Astrology - how time
and space effect the life path of Man, the study of I-Ching divination
- to predict events, to the study of Chinese Medicine (herbs) and
Chi Gung. ALL Chinese studies have their strong roots in the understanding
of the Five Elements.
What are
the Five Elements?
The five elements
can be more accurately described as Five Transformation of Chi,
from Yin to Yang and vice versa. The term Five Elements or "Wu-Xing"
in Chinese means "Five Movements" or "Five-Transformations."
The phases of
Chi when it transforms form one state to another changes from one
form of energy to another. The interaction of the different transforming
phases effects the balance of the universe. Chinese believe that
ALL MATTER can be classified under one or more of the Five
Elements. And these interact to influence a person's destiny and
his interaction with the environment.
The types of
Chi are:
- Metal
- Wood
- Water
- Fire
- Earth
When the elements
move in a positive transformation, it is a forward cycle or "Xiong
Sang." This means "Producing." When an element "produces"
another, it is in a harmonious cycle.
When there is
a naturally "producing" order, it will lead to harmony, prosperity
and happiness.
