Donald H. Harris, O.D., F.A.A.O., F.I.O.S.

     A revolutionary non-surgical vision improvement procedure called Accelerated Orthokeratology will be taught to Asian eye doctors in Hong Kong and China by Dr. Donald H. Harris of Newport Beach, California. Dr. Harris will be lecturing on the prevention and control of myopia (nearsightedness) at Poly Technic University in Hong Kong. He will also address a seminar on orthokeratology in China and Hong Kong as well as teaching eye doctors the "how to" procedures in their hospitals and clinics.

     More than 50% of the Asian population is myopic. The college students with excessive close work exhibit approximately 80% myopia. Environmental (close work) and hereditary factors contribute to the high percentage of myopia.

     Accelerated orthokeratology will be emphasized in the presentations. New Therapeutic 4 curve Ortho-K Contact Lenses safely reshape the eyes front curvature (the cornea) in days to weeks. Nearsightedness and astigmatism are reduced or eliminated. The natural unaided vision is dramatically improved from as high as 20/400 to 20/20. Retainer lenses are worn on a limited basis as necessary to retain the optimum results.

     The orthokeratology procedures are combined with other myopia prevention techniques in a very effective non-surgical program. Children with progressive myopia as well as adults may be helped.

     Eye doctors should be well educated and certified in orthokeratology and myopia control procedures. The Ortho-K Therapeutic Contact Lenses should be manufactured with computerized lathes producing superior quality lenses. An Ortho-K Contact Lens Laboratory in Hong Kong has recently opened to manufacture Ortho-K Contact Lenses. The education of the Asian doctors in Ortho-K procedures is progressing well to compliment the Superior Lens Technology.

Dr. Hams is one of the pioneers of orthokeratology and is a past chairman of the International Orthokeratology Section (I.O.S.) of the National Eye Research Foundation. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. He is active in research and was granted a patent application on a new procedure of accelerated corneal reshaping and has a patent application pending for computer glasses to reduce eyestrain while viewing a VDT.
