This weekend getaway combines cultural sightseeing in fascinating Chiang Mai with a one-day Thai cookery class. You will finish your day of sightseeing awed by the culture and handicrafts still practiced extensively in Thailand. You will finish your second day satiated from delicious Thai food and armed with the know-how to recreate the delicacies in your own kitchen! What better way to forget about work for a couple days.


Leaves Bangkok:

Early evening flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. Pickup at airport by local outfitter and transfer to hotel (deluxe rooms). Dinner at one of Chiang Mai's  great eateries. [Dinner]


Breakfast at hotel. Pick up by local outfitter and explore the old city of Chiang Mai, including a traditional food and vegetable market, Wat Phra Singh (founded in 1345 and noted for its famous murals and inlaid columns of mirrors and gold leaf). Then drive one hour north of Chiang Mai for a demonstration of elephants at work, followed by an exciting 1-hour ride through the jungle on elephant-back. Lunch at a garden restaurant, one of many excellent Thai restaurants you will enjoy during this trip. In the afternoon, we venture out of  town to visit an orchid and butterfly farm and handicraft centers. Special northern Thai dinner at a floating restaurant, followed by a visit to Chiang Mai's famous Night Bazaar. Overnight in Chiang Mai. [Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner]


Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to cooking school. Enjoy a full day's class where you will be introduced to Thai ingredients, paste making and tour the local market. You will then learn to make 6 popular Thai dishes, including hot and sour prawn soup, green curry chicken and stir-fried noodles. After preparation you get to eat the delectable food you've prepared in the traditional Northern style. Transfer to Chiang Mai Airport for flight to Bangkok. [Breakfast, Lunch]
