Model/Actress/Producer Esther Hwang

SAN FRANCISCO, California - Winter 2000 AC Team caught up with our friend Esther recently, to learn about her latest venture as Associate Producer of a new film called "Sleeping with the Lion." Here's a message from Esther: I've studied acting for the last few years and landed some commercials locally and internationally. I've also acted in some smaller roles in the T.V. show "Nash Bridges," and in the films "The Corruptor" and "40 Days and 40 Nights." But those brief T.V./film appearance fade in comparison to this opportunity with Sleeping with the Lion. Prodigy Entertainment has not only offered me a significant role in the movie to play "Lucky Lucy" but they have also offered me a significant role behind the scenes as Associate Producer. Eagerly, I accepted. I've been waiting patiently for the right role and the right movie to really "break in." Let me tell you a little about why I'm so excited about this project. Prodigy Entertainment a San Francisco Bay Area-based, independent film production company founded in 1996. They produce high-quality "A" commercial feature films. Quite frankly, I've been approached by many "B" rated films and have declined them all. I wanted to debut in a film that I could be proud of. Needless to say, I'm very happy for holding out this long because I am very proud of this film. I'd like to share with all of you our vision with "Sleeping with the Lion." Persistence in a Vision There is a void to be filled in the San Francisco Bay Area film industry. There is a need for an independent film company that can develop and produce motion pictures that combine art, craftsmanship, leadership, and good business sense. Prodigy Entertainment can help fill that void, starting with "Sleeping with the Lion." The producers of "Sleeping with the Lion" have a vision to make a great film that will not only make us proud, but will have every chance to win an Academy Award and be a financial success. These may seem like lofty goals to reach for, but it has been our vision to be exceptional from the beginning. We have the confidence, talent, and experienced staff, the passion and the drive that it will take to make an outstanding motion picture. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SAN FRANCISCO, California - Spring 2000 Oh my, Spring, 2000 has definitely sprung. We're so excited for Esther! She's been busy producing videos, making television, film and convention appearances, that she has now gone full-time into the entertainment industry! Up to very recently, Esther did all this while holding down her full time position for the City and County of San Francisco. Not with much sleep...girl. Imagine grabbing a drink of water at the office water cooler and bumping into brainy beauty Esther! Well, soon we hope to see Esther in all her glory on the big screen. She's the model/actress with intelligence! A former straight A student that earned a full academic scholarship to UC Berkeley, Esther graduated with honors and also happens to hold seven beauty pageant titles including Miss San Francisco, Miss Asian America and was a top ten runner-up in the coveted Miss California pageant. Her mom was a beauty queen, so it only came naturally that she would know how to walk down those runways! She then worked as a scheduling secretary to Mayor Willie Brown at the San Francisco Mayor's Office and last summer became a community outreach official for the City of San Francisco's Department of Public Works. As official delegates on San Francisco's Trade Mission to Shanghai in the Fall of 1998, Esther and four AC Team members traveled together on the plane with Mayor Brown, and attended numerous diplomatic, business, multi-media, educational, and cultural meetings with officials from the great sister city of Shanghai. One of the festive events was a fashion show featuring styles from China's top designers. Esther and Mayor Brown were guest models in the show. It's not an easy feat to win a full scholarship to UC Berkeley, graduate with honors and hold all those beauty pageant titles - these are achievements that require real performance. Over the past year, we've chatted with Esther about challenges with "asian sex-kitten" stereotyped roles, and we've debated enthusiastically whether she should pose nude (some of us are just teasing her because we know her!).
