Notable
- Mi Sun Go
is the Korean National Champion for the last four years running.
In 1999 She is ranked 28th in the World Cup, 1998 she
was ranked 11th, and in 1997 she was 10th
ranked by the World Cup. She is competing in the X Games Bouldering
and Speed events. The 1998 X Games was her best international
result. She won the silver medal. She is one of the few Asian
climbers to compete on the World Cup circuit that is mainly held
in Europe.
- She started
climbing because she was simply "attracted to climbing."
At the Asian ZX Games, she climbed very well and won the Difficulty
event and came in second in the Speed event. Her best onsight
is 5.12d at Red Rocks, NV, which she did before coming to the
'98 X Games. She has climbed all the hardest routes in Korea and
her hardest redpoint is 5.13c.Of all the sports at the X Games
she would like to try the Skateboard Vert.
- After returning
home from the 1998 X Games, she started ice climbing and in a
local competition, she came in third place. She says she has become
a disciple of Jum Sook Kim, the Korean ice climber who won the
silver medal at the '99 Winter X Games.
- At the end
of 1998, she was living in the south of France for two months
to climb at new areas and compete in many of the World Cup events.
In November 1998, she won a French national competition, something
rarely done - beating the French at their home game on their home
turf.
- She feels
her strength is her self-confidence and her weakness is her haste.
Go spends about 70 percent of her time climbing. Over the last
year, she has started swimming for some cross-training. Her favorite
climbing area is her home area in Korea called Mt. Sumwon, also
known as "Little Buoux."
- Go is married
with no children. She has two brothers and three sisters and says,
"I am fully supported by my family, especially my husband."
Her husband introduced Mi Sun to climbing. He doesn't climb anymore,
but the two do go climbing together.
Future
Goals
In
life, she would like to keep challenging her limits, keep traveling
around the world to compete and climb, and to redpoint 5.14.
