Tia Carrere makes history as one of the first Asian Americans to star in a leading role in a television series. "I don't have to have an Asian accent," Tia proudly told Asian Connections Team member Katie Joe. "My character (in "Relic Hunter") is an intelligent professor
of ancient civilization, she's well versed in martial arts...and also happens to be Asian American, but it's never an issue." "I think its great to break open the stereotypes that exists out there still today," said Carrere. Tia was in Los Angeles as Mistress of Ceremonies of A Magazine's bi-coastal 10th anniversary gala.
Tia Carrere's intriguing blend of Hawaiian, Chinese, Spanish, and Filipino heritages - has stolen the hearts of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wesley Snipes, and Mike Myers in her most memorable movie roles in "True Lies," "Rising Sun," and both installments of "Wayne's World." Her films have scored more than $750 million at the box office worldwide.
In her recent television production, the "Relic Hunter," Carrere returns to television in her first regular role since she made her Hollywood debut in the daytime drama "General Hospital." She's guest starred on "Veronica's Closet," "Murder One," "Married with Children," and "Quantum Leap," among others. Carrere is an avowed dog lover and supporter of
numerous charities, including Planned Parenthood, and lives in Los Angeles. |
