Sammo Hung
Actor Sammo Hung is one man to be reckoned with. Here is an artist with a POW! presence, whether we're talking about the action film industry or a banquet room at the Aspire '99 Awards Gala. At Aspire, the formidable star of CBS television show Martial Law received the Cross-cultural Entertainment Award. Sammo's career credits include work on well over 100 films as lead actor,
action and fight director, a formidable number for any performing artist. Born in Hong Kong in 1950, Sammo began training with the Peking Opera at the tender age of 8. He attended school with Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao, who are among Sammo's closest friends and film collaborators today. Sammo's cinema career began at the age of 11 with a part in "Education of Love." However, Sammo's major
breakthrough didn't come until his early twenties, with his martial arts directing in 1971's "The Fast Sword" and his cameo role in Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon." Sammo is now one of the best action directors and fight choreographers around. Among his directing credits are Jackie Chan's Mr. Nice Guy and Jet Li's Once Upon a Time in China and America . Here is a versatile artist who easily leaps cultural
boundaries to reach a diverse, vast audience. We look forward to following your work, Sammo! -- AC's Lenora Chu |
