Hong Kong superstar Jet Li, who played a feature
role in the international smash hit "Lethal Weapon 4" and starred
in the breakthrough action films "Once Upon A Time In China" and
"Black Mask," makes his English-language starring debut in "Romeo
Must Die." Recording artist AALIYAH makes her feature film debut
as Trish O'Day, who wants no part of her father Isaak's war and
joins forces with Han (JET LI) to stop it.
Russell Wong portrays Kai, the Sing family enforcer, who shares
a mutual antagonistic relationship with Han. "Kai just
does his job without really questioning the moral consequences of
his acts," says Russell Wong. "He never loses his
cool, even when he's killing someone. It's not tough or mean;
it's just what he does. He's comfortable with it. I
also feel that Kai has been much more Americanized than Han.
And when Han shows up and wants to suddenly play a role in what's
going on, he feels his turf is being threatened."
Before production began, Li and his martial arts team spent
weeks choreographing and developing several intense and intricate
fight scenes. The results bear the signatures of both Jet
Li and master choreographer and veteran Hong Kong film director
Corey Yuen. "Jet and Corey bring an unbelievably energetic
and athletic fight process to this picture that comes out of the
Eastern film style," says Silver. "Their fighting and wiring
work techniques give the audience a whole new way of seeing the
fight experience. I was first able to explore wire work during
"The Matrix," and I think it's something that people have never
seen before in the West. It literally changed the way we look
at action pictures."
