Hello, I'm Mario Machado of AsianConnections.
I welcome you to this chat with world renowned martial arts artist
and film star Jet Li. This is an historic interview. This is the
first time that three websites will be simulcasting the interview
on both sides of the Pacific Ocean to be heard by millions of people
in English and Chinese.
Our website AsianConnections.com is interviewing Jet Li in the entertainment
capital of the world, Los Angeles, and our exclusive interview is
being simulcast by HongKong.com's English and Chinese language websites.
Joining me on my far left is Michael Kai, who has some very
interesting questions asked by fans of Jet Li.
The topic is historic. Jet Li is a star in the midst of the
huge success of his first English speaking starring role in an American
motion picture, a Warner Brothers feature, "Romeo Must Die." It's
a break-through movie for him here in America. He's a national treasure
in his homeland of China, an award-winning Wushu martial arts master
who has starred in 25, he corrected me, he says 26, this is his
27th movie. With 25 movies in Asia, primarily playing "good
guy" roles. He made a sensational co-starring debut playing
the "bad guy" for the first time, because he usually plays
"good guys," in "Lethal Weapon 4" with Mel Gibson and
Danny Glover, and now this is his first starring English speaking
role in an American film.
AC
(MARIO): By all measures, his latest movie "Romeo Must Die" is a
box office hit. It's premiering in Asia and around the globe
as we speak. How are you taking this all in? Exciting?
JET:
For me? (smiling)
AC
(MARIO): Yes, sir.
JET:
(smiling) Of course, you know, the first English movie in
the states, the audience gives me a lot of support. They like the
movie. They're so happy. But I have a very strong philosophy in
my life. (laughter) While everybody's happy, I'm just very calm
down, to think about it, the future. If everybody's upset, I'm very
excited. (laugh) And, I tell myself, "Do it again, and again."
