Asian Business Etiquette: Bows, Handshakes, and Exchanging Business Cards
This series will give you the basic information about bowing, handshaking and the exchange of
business cards. These three practices seem to be the most perplexing of all business and social practices to those who travel or do business with Asians for the first time. With practice, you will become more accustomed
to doing each of these. The more adaptable and "quick on your feet" you are, the less likely you are to be caught off guard. Of course each country varies in style of greetings. Some of the deepest bows can be found in
Japan and Korea. In China instead of bowing, executives meet with dignified, respectful and in some cases exuberant handshakes, sometimes in a combination with a very slight bow. |
