Founder, Mike
Kai, has been developing websites for companies since he was
14.
He
developed AsianConnections.com as a personal project to help empower
people to connect globally and to take the Asian experience mainstream.
He
felt the need to develop an online community to celebrate the achievements
and portray Asian people in real life, as diverse, multi-dimensional
people rather than the stereotypes most commonly found in mainstream
media.
Today,
thanks to Mike's vision and activism, AsianConnections.com is pleased
to have as its advisors and partners an impressive group of American
and Asian-based leaders from many disciplines including media, business,
news, ecommerce, education, law, government, food, travel, health,
feng shui, music, sports and entertainment worlds.
San
Francisco Mayor Willie L. Brown inaugurated AsianConnections.com
with Mike during a Fall, 1998 trade mission to China praising
the site as "helping to bridge people, cultures and countries."
Mike
brings fresh, youthful ideas to his direction of the concept and
content of AsianConnections.com and its affiliated sites within
its network including YanCanCook.com,
BenFongTorres.com and
StudioLA.com.
Mike
is now studying at Yale,
and co-managing his ventures in coordination with talented AsianConnections
professionals spanning across the globe from San Francisco to Shanghai.
In 2002, he has launched a new venture called CollegeEntrance.com
to help young people to get into the college of their choice.
He
has interviewed diverse personalities from skateboard icon Tony
Hawk, martial arts stars Jet
Li and Jackie
Chan and Jet's "Kiss of the Dragon" co-star Bridget
Fonda. Mike's exclusive interview with Jet
Li, made Internet history, as the first Hollywood bilingual
simulcast between three websites (Mike's interview was broadcast
in cooperation with Warner Bros. and Chinadotcom) in the U.S. and
in Asia.
Prior
to college, Mike was also a world ranked race car driver, ranked
#1 in his division nationally in the Quarter Midget Racing Association.
Mike holds the world record for the fastest lap ever completed in
his division on a 1/16 mile oval track. This record was achieved
after seven years of training and racing on the national racing
circuit. Mike also enjoys snowboarding, is an Advanced Certified
SCUBA diver, loves sea kayaking, and goes fishing regularly with
his friends.
