David Henry Hwang

  Tony Award Winning Playwright,
Screenwriter, and Librettist

David Henry Hwang is perhaps best known as the author of the smash Broadway hit, M. BUTTERFLY, which won a Tony, Drama Desk, John Gassner and Outer Critics Circle Awards, as well as the 1991 L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award.  The play also enjoyed a one-year run on London's West End and has been produced in over three dozen countries to date. Mr. Hwang's most recent play currently on Broadway, is GOLDEN CHILD, which has earned 1998 Tony Award and Outer Critics Circle Nominations. He is currently rewriting Rodgers & Hammerstein's FLOWER DRUM SONG, and working on a new play about Paul Gauguin, to star actor Armand Assante.  Mr. Hwang graduated from Stanford University, attended the Yale School of Drama and has been awarded as honorary doctorate from Columbia College in Chicago. He lives in New York City with his wife, actress Kathryn Layng, and their son, Noah.
