Tim Lounibos Biography

In the past several years, the former high school basketball star from Petaluma, California, has quickly established himself as one of the top Asian American talents in Hollywood. Playgirl puts it differently-- "...after decades of playing cowering houseboys, sexless geeks, and street gang hoodlums, Asian men such as himself, Russell Wong and Jason Scott Lee are finally being given a chance to prove how sexy they really are."  A Magazine states simply that Lounibos "seems poised to join the small constellation of Asian American stars with widespread mainstream appeal" and considers him "Asian Hollywood's Young Man of the Moment."

His guest spots on various television series -- including The Pretender, JAG, Touched By An Angel, Suddenly Susan, The Nanny, Beverly Hills, 90210, and Star Trek: The Next Generation -- have begun to make him one of the most sought after "undiscovered" actors in Hollywood. Lounibos was also featured in the NBC telefilm Leave of Absence with Jacqueline Bisset and Brian Dennehy.

However, it was a stand-out starring role in the film Erotique that has put Lounibos well on his way to reaching goals he thought would take a lot longer to achieve. Wonton Soup (the third of Erotique's three vignettes) in which Lounibos stars was shot on location in Hong Kong for highly acclaimed director, Clara Law.  Critics, including those from the Los Angeles Times, Daily Variety, and New York Times as well as Leonard Maltin and Gary Franklin, have singled out Wonton Soup as the best of the three stories. Film Journal went so far as to proclaim Lounibos "the acting standout of Erotique!"

Last year, Lounibos starred in Steel Sharks -- a made-for-cable action adventure film with Gary Busey and Billy Dee Williams.  As 'Mack Kerry', a military explosives expert for the Navy SEALs, Lounibos portrayed a heroic action figure and continued to smash stereotypes.

In '99, Lounibos will be seen at the Sundance Film Festival and many others in the independent feature film, Life Tastes Good, as the young cocky homicide detective, Archie.  On the Sundance Channel, he'll be starring in the hilarious and quirky short film Cowgirl opposite Canadian star Sandra Oh, recently recognized by her peers as that country's top actress. He was also asked to provide the voice of the Prince in HBO's version of The Little Mermaid -- opposite Tia Carrere, Robert Guillaume and Margaret Cho.

At 6'1", Lounibos' Korean/German/Irish great looks keeps heads turning in Hollywood, where he has also appeared on TV for Chrysler, K.F.C., Pearle Vision, and G.T.E.

After having studied with U.C. Berkeley Dramatic Arts, where he was featured in five theatre productions, and then packing his bags and moving to Los Angeles, Lounibos has quickly found a place for himself in Hollywood.    -- TL special to AC
